yep, I love my new 2000 Sportsman 500. How can I get more immediate throttle response and overall power out of it?
Is there an inexpensive way to simply raise the power level without irreversible mechanical alterations?
It'll do about 62mph stock, but takes a day and a half to get there.

clutch kit will give you more throttle response and quickness out of the hole...i have a hot seat clutch kit on mine that i'm happy with....clutch kits aren't real cheap but unfortunatly horsepower not only takes more fuel and air but also more money ....besides clutch kit you can look at highlifters carb kits and highperformance kits(pipe, exhaust, air filter, ect.)

Start out with a K&N kit. You might need to rejet the carb by one size. These are the least expensive upgrades. K&N should cost around $35 & jets are only a few bucks each.

How many miles you got on the SP500?

How about putting in the clutch modifications which Polaris supplies for 2001, different springs and a helix?

If your machine will do an "honest" 62 mph stock, I would leave it alone. My "original" 500HO SP 500 will not go that fast. My '99 stock would barely do 50. I know everyone brags about how fast they go, but the only way to find is is to run 'em. If you want more hp, it will cost you with these 4-strokes and the gains will be minimal at each step before you find the correct combination. They can be made to run well, for a heavy slug, but it may not be worth it.

Mine will only run an "honest" 60 mph but it will get there in about 3/16ths of a mile.

I know there are lots of "stories" about how fast everyone is, but I've not been touched by another utility quad, nothing even close, yet.

when i say 62, it is based on me burying the speedometer which goes to 60. when i had my quad licensed for street, i had my neighbor, the cop, radar me. all original equipment, i was clocked at 28mph when the speedometer said 28mph, so i am assuming it is correct.

the power i want is not top end speed. heck, i can pass cars on the highway. it would be wheel spinning power, that i want.
