Default drive belt tension,adjustment????

I realized that I have too much play in my drive belt. How do I tighten this up? I've heard lossening the motor mounts and moving the motor forward. I've also heard to add/remove shims. Has anybody had to do this? Any help is always apreciated, I want to ride this weekend and would feel alot better if this was fixed.

if belt deflection is out of specification, adjust by removing or adding shims between the driven clutch sheaves.remove shims to decrease deflection, add shims to increase it..

buy a new belt.

if you have a service manual, it should say just what the belt wear tolerances are.

if you have too much belt play, it prawly just worn out.

When I take a straightedge across the two clutches, my belt has more than 1 1/8 play in it. This is with the new belt installed. Can I get shims from my polaris dealer?

Remember that the belt should ride about an 1/8" on top of the secondary.

Also remember that the tension is checked by lightly pushing down on the belt. If you push down fairly strong then you might be over doing it. Like CED told you, the belt should ride above the secondary clutch just a bit.
