Dad just retired recently, and I'm trying to get him into a hobby. He's 56 years old, 80 pounds overweight, and the highlight of his day is taking the dog for a ride in the truck twice a day, and his 3 o'clock nap.

He does want a quad, but doesn't know exactly what he wants. I'm trying to get him to try out a SP500, sure he'd like it, but says he doesn't want to spend that much money. He has it, just wants to keep it.

What would be the perfect quad for this old(er) guy?

I think he would really just want to put around in fields or in the woods. No serious hill climbing, and little or no mud. He probably doesn't need 4x4, but I think it would be good for possible resale. He wants shaft drive, automatic, (retired truck driver)and four stroke.

My suggestions are, Magnum, or Sportsman. Whadaya think?

Dave

For "puttin" around, I think a Mangnum 325 4x4 or 2x4 will do absolutel fine. Maybe a Sportsman 335? if yyou dont want four wheel drive I'd go with the Magnum 325 2x4 cause you got the low range if you need it.

Dave,
If pops has the $$,the Sportsman 500HO is my recomendation. If $$ is a real factor here, than the Magnum 325 is a good choice.

Two of my friends ride the 335 Sportsman, after riding my 500cc Sportsman and my Xplorer, they wish they would of done more homework before purchasing the 335s.They let the dealer talk them into the 335s.There is no comparising between the powerbands of these quads. You are doing dad a BIG favor by telling him to purchase a 4x4 quad. The first time he gets stuck on a 2x4 quad,he'll be callin you names.====Bill

Thanks guys.

You all said pretty much what I thought. I told Dad yesterday that alot of SP500s would be traded in when the 2001s come out.

Bill, I did the 2x4 thing myself. After being winched out 3 times on the first ride, I was ready to kill everybody that told me I only needed 2WD. 2WD is more fun than a full time 4x4, but this is Polaris were talkin' about. Why not have both.

Thanks again,
Dave

Dave,
your right, very seldom do you need 4x4,but man, it sure is nice knowing that it is there in the event that you needed it.And I personally love the idea of switchable 2wd-4wd.Im not one for full time 4x4 like on other models.Just flip the little yellow button on the right side of the handle bars,it works like a dream.Best of luck to you and dad.====Bill

OK indydave you know my 4wheeler. The Polaris Sportsman 500 that you talked about via email. I will sell it to you for 6000$ with a snowblade. It is i $1000 dollars less than a new one and still a 2000 model. So it is about equivelent to a new atv. But cost less money. Email me if you want more info
