Default Getting to Predator500 Main Jet...

Hey everyone, I am in the process of rejetting my Predator and cant get the screws to break loose so I can get into the area with the main jet. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so how did you get them loose? My dealer told me to try using a pair of vise grips on them but I thought I would try to get some more ideas to. Thanks for any input.

Yes, use a vice grip. But before you take anything apart, do yourself a favor and go to the local hardware store, and get new screws that have the allen head. That way when you put the vice grips on the O.E.M. screws, you can just let 'em have it. After main jet has been changed, try out your new allen head screws to make sure they fit properly. If so put some blue locktite on them babys and the next time you have to rejet, all you need to use is an allen wrench, no more vice grips! To find out the correct size and lenght, go to: predatorowners.com and do a search on the subject. I have done this mod and love it. Good luck!

I used a posi-drive phillips on my neighbors pred and my V. They were indeed tight, but they broke loose without stripping the heads. Like 03polarispredator said, replace them with allen heads once you get them off.

Good luck with the scews if you strip them out then take a dremel and cut a slot in the head of the screw so you can get a flat blade scew driver. That way you can get more bite and wont have to drill out the screw and retap it. I had to do the dremel route with mine and works great and really didnt have to replace the screws afterward. but is still a good idea. I talk to a guy that replaced them with allen screws.

We had to use a dremel on my buddy's raptor. He has rejetted his a number of times and them screw heads are in bad shape. Next time apart, he's puting allen heads in.

I did the samething when i rejetted mine yesterday. After messing with bike carbs before i know all to well how crappy the stock screws are, i didn't even give mine a chance got out the vice grips pulled out all the screws the carb had on it and when to ace. Not one screw left on my carb

Thanks for the info guys, I went to my local hardware store and couldnt find the bolts that use hex wrenches but was able to find some regular bolts that were the same size. Im going to try and see if they work today.
