Sorry guys, I posted this question in the Yamaha forum, and got NO responses. I'm sure you can help.

I've been trying to help my dad find a quad, and I heard about a 98 Grizzly that was used only to judge bird dog trials, has 500 miles on it, for $5000. Good deal ? Kelly Blue book lists it at $5885.

Thanks for your help,
Dave

only 500 miles sounds like a good price to me. if it books for 5885, I would check it out for sure.

I hear of a lot of overheating problems on the 98 Grizz's. They also shaved off 60 pounds of weight from 98-99 model, thats a lot of weight. They also had a problem with people burning thier legs on that machine. But I heard you can now buy some kind of heat guard from Yamaha for this problem.

The '98 Grizz did overheat because its radiator was mounted to low & would clog up with mud. I believe for $60 Yamaha sold a kit to re-mount it up higher in the frame.

Radiator? What radiator? If you mean the oil cooler, its already mounted real high. Buying a kit would be a waste. You couldn't move it more than another inch or so. And yes the 98's were heavier. But with all the power you've got, you really won't notice it all that much. Till you roll on top of you.

These guys are right. The 99 model corrected alot of problems with the GRIZZ. The 99 model would be a better choice. Check a Magnum 500 for the old man.
