I've used a big pair of Channel Locks. A big pipe wrench will work too. Check Home Depot or if you live close to a pawn shop, you may find one cheaper.

Read your manual, the channel locks work better.......but the way they reccommend(of course after you loosen those bolts up)....is to use the screw driver, and "rock" the quad forward or back to tighten or loosen the chain.....

How tight is the chain supposed to be in the tightest spot? the service manual says 1 cm, but mine makes nasty noises when its that tight. No jumping or hard riding here, but the back sprocket is often on the ground in the deep ruts.

I put a screw driver in the hole through the sprocket and push the machine forward or backwards... tighten... loosen. Never have used a wrench on either scrambler or predator except to loosen the clamps on the axle housing.

I like the wrench way because it seems more concise- when rocking it back and forth it can be difficult to see how far youve gone, but when turning it with channellocks you can see how far the little grease zerk has turned.

Honestly, it rotates really smooth. I can get it to move just a little by just pushing on the tire... but to each his own.

If your sprocket is in ruts a lot, so is your chain. Check to make sure you don't have any O-rings missing on the chain, and for wear on the sprockets. I had 5 O-rings missing when I checked mine.
