Your right Azelmo, my Scrambler will have pretty much the same mods as your Sport.Did you have all the mods done at the same time or did you go the way I am: Pipe and clutch kit with air box and reeds....then add the porting etc... and carb? Just curious to see the real difference in performance throughout the powerband with all these different mods in place. Plus, what clutch kit are you using...the standard/aggresive or the real aggresive with new helix?

Quick question. I was checking my sparkplug yesterday to try and understand propper jetting. The plug was all black so from what I understand that should not be right...It still runs well but I lack the experience to know what a properly jetted machine runs like. How exactly do you check jetting? How can I adjust if it is not correct?

It is amazing getting into the mechanics of my quad but it sure is complicated!

Xplor,

Did you perform the piston change yourself?

If you did, what special tools are required?

Thanks

No I did not. I have not yet aquired those skills. Maybe after another couple months on these forums... I am starting by learning the easier things. Brakes, snorkels, jetting and tuning the clutch are in my immediate future. I spend too much $$$ at the dealer.

The only tool you need that most might not have is a torque wrench to put the head back on. Pistons are a breeze.

the order that I did my mods were... pipe, aggresive clutch kit,air box mod.
then came part 2...porting,carb,billet head,reeds,piston.
in part 2 of mods there wasnt a big change in top speed, like 4mph but, point A to B was cut in half
0-60 is right now...if it hooks.
my top speed is like 64-65 with the gearing Iam running(at 2000feet,and 105deg F), I was talking to hpd(darrel) he thinks it sould be nearer 71-72mph then I told him Iam hitting 7100-7200rpm on the top end,he felt the sec. clutch needs loosened up a bit to get the mph in it and some rpm out of it,down to 6900-7000rpm.
here in the heat i has having a $Ell of a time reading plugs..always light brown,I like it a tad rich to be safe, after speeking to hpd they said some of the problem was the small cooling system on the 400L and running it at high rpm in the 100deg++ temps it will tend to be on the "card board brown color side" and to check the jetting in the mid rpm range..
Try posting the jetting ?? on D.Shotwells polaris forum athttp://www.users.uswest.net/~ddjshotwell/
maybe he can help you better
oh and by the way to help my jetting a ordered a exhaust temp gauge.
