Most miles on a Sportsman 500?
#5
i own a 2000 polaris sportsman with 1000 miles on it. i have had it in the shop 3 times for the armature plates that engage the "on demand 4 wheel drive" not egaging. that isnt the bad part. the first time it was covered by warranty the second and third it was out of warranty. since it was a problem that occurred under warranty i decided the 4 wheel drive should be covered till the problem was fixed. i spent 2 weeks going between polaris' customer service line (what a joke) and the dealer. u call polaris you get a recording every time. finally i got a long distance # to talk to someone. after some fighting they covered it. the 4 wheel drive problem is now fixed (after 3and a half months.)
recently i decided that checking into trading in on a grizz would be a wise option. i called 9 local yamaha dealers, 5 said they no longer take any model of polaris on trade (they said they have to much major mechanical trouble with the polaris brand '97 and newer), 2 would give me no more than $4000, 1 said they'd give me $5000 on my sportsman but the grizz was $7950, right now i am making a deal with the only dealer in the area that gave me a half deal.

dontbuypolaris,
sounds hard to believe man. i have never heard of any polaris having that problem with the 4 wheel drive system. and there are a lot of people on this forum. i have a hard time believing that any Knowlegable dealer would say the 97 and newer polaris are not mechanicaly sound. these machies are very reliable. just read thes forums. if they would only give u $4k for your 2000 sportsman then your dumb. Oh and an other thing the griz doesnt cost anywhere near $7950, get your facts right. anyone who has riddent a sp500 and a griz will tell u that there is no comparison, the sp500 is the superior machine.

on the yamaha dealer not wanting to take it on trade..thats funny,a buddy of mine with a 98 b/b 350 went to trade in on the exp. 425/,the polaris dealer told him he really didnt want it but would take it for like 2600. he said they were n/g..now isnt that strange? guess it depends on who your talking to and about what

Even the Honda place here will take Polaris on trades, the dealers normally don't care they look up the value give you way less LOL and send you on your way with a new machine. Never heard of any dealer turning down any trade, they normally love trades they make out big time on it. but i guess there is always someone somewhere that is going against the norm. But to say 97 and newer are bad that guy has not got a clue. 7950! holy crap that is at least 1200 more than what they go for. I don't get it why would they care if it was no good? they are selling it used there are no warranty issues they have to deal with?
It is hard to believe the SP is Polaris's biggest seller, they fly out of the dealers at 6 grand plus.
