Polaris Chains
#1
While out riding last weekend, my wife 2000 tboss started to make a popping sound from the chain area. I figured it just needed adjusting. I cleaned the machine up last night and adjusted the chain and it is still popping. I put the rear up on a jack and spun the tire and noticed that one of the links is severly scarred and when it goes around the sprockets, it tries to follow the sprocket around and "pops" off. I shot some chain wax on it and it got better, but it is still going into the shop as its still under warranty. My questions are:
1. What caused the link to go bad. I remember another person in here having the same trouble. I am very diligent at adjusting the chain to 1/2 to 1/4 deflection and keeping it waxed.
2. If the dealer replaces the chain, will the one year warranty start again on the new chain. I will be calling the dealer later to get it in.

I just got mine back from the dealer, same problem. He said the warranty does not extend from the new one... I think I'll get an aftermarket chain next time.
My original dealer couldn't figure out the problem in 3 visits so I had to live with it. I went to a new dealer and he fixed it right away.

I thought you were the one that was having the chain problems. I agree that I will never purchase a stock chain for it, but as long as Polaris is paying for this one, a stock chain will do fine. Did Polaris change suppliers on the chains? My 98 magnum has had no chain troubles and I was not so diligent with the maintenance on that one.

A frien of mine has a trailboss(2000) that did the same thing. He took it to the dealer and they said the chain needed lubed. Afterward it stopped for a while and he would lube ut when it started again. A few weeks ago the chain slipped around the front sprocket and he noticed that the ends of the teeth on the front sprocket were wore off and one of the links was damaged(missing a roller). He took it back to the dealer and they said it was from him not lubing the chain. He called Polaris and told them he lubed the chain before each ride but was told by them that the correct way to lube was after each ride therefore they would replace the parts but he was responsible for the labor($70). Since when does lubing the chain before not after void a warrenty and if it is that important why does the manual not say so. Sorry for the long post.

If you lube it after a ride the chain is sarm and the lube will work into it better. I lube mine as soon as I stop after each 100 miles roll along, and it is still going strong @ 3100 miles. Only tightened it 3 or 4 times since I had it.
Most of my riding is hardpack dirt trails with some hillclimbing thrown in. Don't go thru deep mud very often, but if I do I rinse off the chain & brake disks before I park for the day (just a garden hose-power washer can ruin the o rings)
Just FYI I like to use AGCO or John Deere lube. Reasonable price & really seems to work.

It sounds like you have a tight link, could be from a couple of things. Try and flex the link by hand, does it work smoothly? If not try and lube it up, shoot some lube in the o-ring side plate area. If that doesn't work, see if the inner link has spread wide, pinching the o-rings. You might be able to squeeze it back together with vice grips. When you say the link is scarred, then a rock or something has put some decent force on the link, possibly moving a plate out of alignment, causing it to bind.
