scrambler stuck in 4X4 mode
My brother has an 01 scrambler 500 4x4 and it has never had any problems but this weekend he engaded the 4x4 and it stayed in???? He tried everything to get it to come out, the 4x4 light will go out but the 4x4 is still engaded. Any ideas or places to start looking??

first of all, the first and most imortant thing yer buddy should do is get a service repair manual for his bike.
but until then you can go to partsland.com and look under the category for his scrammy. there will be some diagrams there that will help out.
on the hubs there are allen head plugs that are the drain plugs. i cant remember off the top of my head how full they should be. but but if you removed one, my bet is that they are empty or near empty.
polaris sells hub fluid. although i hear the you can use automotive ATF. but dont quote me on that. i just think it would be best to stick with the recommended fluids.
just my thoughts. BBS might be able to shed more light on the subject.

Pull the cap off the end of the hub and remove the allen head set screw. Once it is drained, put the cap back one, and fill the hub up through the set screw hole. The hole should be at a 4:00 position. You will know that it is full when the fluid starts to leak out. It doesnt take much, about 4oz if I remember correctly. I use Mobil 1 Syn. ATF and have had less problems with that than the Polaris stuff or regular ATF Type F.

The polaris stuff is Premium Demand Drive Hub Fluid. The 4 o clock position is good. when it runs out at 3 o clock its full. I believe it is about 4 oz as well or less. I also believe it only locks into 4x4 when its getting power. It could also be getting power when it shouldn't be. Check the wireing as well. Good Luck dude!
