Ive been thinking about getting a 2004 scrambler 500 4X4 for awhile. Id get it new from my dealer down the street. WHat can anyone tell me about it? reliability? top speed? acceleration? mud? snow? tails? winches? How long it would last? ect..

Thanks, Nick

Welcome to the forums Nick. Let me see.........

Reliability- They are reliable machines as long as you take care of them and do the maintence.

Top Speed- around 65mph stock

Acceleration- They will outrun most all of the big bore Utes out there.

Mud- It aint gonna outmud a Sportsman, but it will go where no sport quad can

Trails- AWSOME trail machine. Lighter than the utes, selectable 4wd, good suspension, and the auto trans make is great in the trails

Winches- There are winch kits available through Warn and Cycle Country. I dont know if Polaris offers their winch kit anymore?

How long will it last- That is up to you and how well you keep up with maintence and repairs (which are inevedable with any machine)

It would be a great choice, they are unchanged for 05 except graphics.
It should top out in the 60's and last a long time if you keep up the maintainance. It will mud with most SRA 4x4's.
You can purchase a winch, hitch and racks for them.

Maybe someone else can elaborate...but I hear there are some great after market hop up parts for it as well. To give it more zip. (not that it doesn't have enough stock - I hear stock it will pull a wheelie with ease.)

There are pipes and clutch kits out there for the 500, not much in the engine build up department though. Much to my dismay. The 400 scrambler has LOTS of engine kits available to make massive horsepower.
