I was over in the Yamaha forum and the discussion was top speed on the Wolverine. Anyways, one thing led to another and one of the forum members peeps in about the EFI. I tried to say that things run faster with more power at sea-level than at high altitude. So he comes back with this:

"GO TO THE FALLOW WEB PAGE AND READ WHAT POLARIS SAYS ABOUT THERE NEW EFI SYSTEM.

http://atv.polarisindustries.com/atv...mily=Sportsman

IT EVEN STATES THAT AT 6000 FEET YOU HAVE TO REJET A CARB WHILE ON THERE SYSTEM IT AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTS AS YOU GO UP IN ELEVATION.

ALSO THE EFI SYSTEM DOES NOT NEED "AIR" TO ADJUST, IT ADJUST THE FUEL CURVE TO THE AMOUNT OF AIR GOING IN THE ENGINE READ BY A SENSOR. "

The last sentence kills me. OMG....I asked him if he was serious. I asked him if he thought that the oxygen level at sea-level was the same as 10000 feet? I was going to say, you dumb a$$, of course the EFI adjusts for altitude, thats why I got it....

This guy can't be serious...there isn't anyone that stupid is there???? Even if he copied that sentence from somewhere, does he really think that it will perform the same???? Can't be, either he is 8 years old are completely stupid...

Hehe, yup. There are some real dumbasses. If I remember correctly, you loose 2-3% horsepower per 1000 feet elevation assuming jetting/EFI remains optimal. No way to change that without injecting oxygen.

Stop right there. You were in a thread about a 4wd atv's top speed and you expected intelligence? It doesnt matter what forum these threads are in, they are all full of bull and taking any of it to heart or as truth is definately a no no.

Ya, they were more right than me on the speed of the wolverine, it started out on tires, the Mudlites, then it expanded. I didn't mean to troll, but I was just stating the facts that my friends Wolverines doesn't go as fast as theirs, but they were much closer to sea-level than here and we tested on a dirt road measuring with the GPS. What got me was the people that had to pop in. I don't see that here on the Polaris forum unless we usually know what we are talking about. Some good people there, but some others are .....

anyways, hasn't been a reply from the brain yet....

I don't know which thread you are referring to because I don't read all of them but I probably would have tried to explain the situation out instead of coming to the polaris forum and claiming in my words lack of intelligence because some forum members don't know all there is to know about quads and altitudes. I know about altitudes because I know when I am at the bottom of the hill at my place I can't see over the horizon and when I am at the top of the hill I can.

I tried to explain, but some people are just going to argue, not think intelligently. So when that happens, its time to put the words into music.

I really can't believe that someone doesn't understand altitude and jetting. Damn, they must ride at the same elevation all the time and I understand that a majority of the people do. But when you try to tell me that altitude doesn't matter like the person knew what they were talking about, then its time to set them straight. My previous job was an Engineering Manager, I'm now the Operations Manager. I work for the worlds largest Aerospace Defense company. So maybe I'm alittle critical and expect more from people....just alittle more

anybody notice that the forums have been more than just a little argumentative lately?

if i had never been to these forums before and i saw these types of things going on, i would probably go looking for a different forum.

people need to chill the F*#% out!!

i mean DAMN, no one person on here knows everything there is to know about atvs. everyone has their own perspective on different things.

that's why there are those of us that come here seeking information and there are those of us that try and help others when they need information.

i dont want to come here and ask a question so that i can gain knowledge about my machine, and instead wind up being insulted.

if i wanted to argue, i wouldn't even turn my computer on and i'd just sit here and argue with my girlfriend or something. that's one reason i love coming here. because i can read and share info about the sport i really love.

just my opinion.

X
