OIL!!

I HAVE READ A FEW POSTS ABOUT SYNTHETIC OILS, LESS ODOR AND LESS SMOKE IN 2 STROKE ENGINES. SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO TRY. CAN THE SYNTHETIC OIL AND REGULAR 2 STROKE OIL BE MIXED?

My dealer/mechanic told me to run the regular oil fairly low, then fill with the synthetic & don't look back. This is dealing with Polaris oil. He also told me to beware as the Polaris synthetic is not compatable with some other brands of oil, and there is a chance of gumming up the filter and/or injector pump. Rare occurances (he wished he could tell me what brand(s) oil were used), but he has seen it once or twice. Once you go synthetic, you will want to stay there. Much less smoke, less oi-burner smell, and my last spark plug went over 1 year & 2000 miles. It was still running OK, I just figured I'd better change it before it went bad on a trail somewhere.

Exploreratver,
As long as they're both "polaris" brand oils, mixing won't hurt anything. Otherwise, I would be extremely careful(avoid it) if you're running something other than Polaris oil. If you're using another brand, you could drain the oil tank, refill it with Polaris Gold Synthetic, and mix 12.8 ounces of Polaris Gold to 4 gallons and run premix in the gas tank for one tank. This should allow enough time for the system to purge itself of the other oil and make the switch to the Polaris gold oil. Watch the oil tank level to make sure it is dropping before you quit running the premix. Also, once you've made the switch, you may want to make sure that the oil pump adjustment is set correctly. It comes from the factory set a little rich. Once set correctly, there will be less smoke, and oil consumption will go down. The procedure for adjusting the oil pump is in the owners manual, and is kind of unclear, so if you have any questions, just ask me. Later,
