Tire Repair?
#1
Hello everyone,
I have a quick question for anyone with an answer.
I just found a small (very small) hole in the middle of my side wall. It loses about one-half of a pound of psi each day. Is this something that can be patched from the inside or am I destined for a new tire.
BTW, It is a brand new P700 with less than 300 miles on it. I have the tires SLIMED, but that does nothing for the side of the tire. Thanks for any input on the matter.

you could try a tube-less tire repair kit that uses the plugs. i've been riding on a tire with a plug in the tread for over a year and it doesn't even leak, don't know if it works on sidewalls but would be worth a try before purchasing a new tire. Also, you could take it to a tire repair place and see if they can fix it, if they say they can't patch it on the side wall search around for some place that will, most places won't for liability reasons only.

I've been doing this for years and have had great success...
1. Find a GOOD local tire shop that has a machine to put on and take off your tires from the rims. If their machine will not fit, or they don't want to try go somewhere else.
2. Have them install a patch ... yes i know the patch will not hold or thats what they will tell you, tell them thats OK and have them patch it!
3. Install a heavy duty atv tube, if they don't have any instock (they will not ... even my guy who has do this for me over the years will not keep any in stock ... saids i don't come enough), but they should be able to get on within a day.
The patch helps keep water from coming into the tire and tube, it should cost around $25.00 - $35.00 for the whole thing, i've had this last 700 to 1000 miles.
PS never use slime in an ATV tire ... its a mess once you take off the tire ... also i've seen it rust the rim from the inside.
PSS also you can't do the "starter fluid to inflate the tire" trick ... slime likes to burn very quicky when you add strater fluid, i've seen the tire start on fire that we couldn't get out before the tire burned beyond repair.

you can use a plug, but if you have a tire place near you, they can dismount the tire, patch from the inside and it will work also....on one of my machines I had about a half dozen of plugs in the sidewall....they didn't leak, worked fine...

Yah try the plug with CEMENT GLUE!!
I have a 05 scr 500 with 6, yes SIX ,plugs in the sidewall. My father in law hit a rock and sliced the sidewall about 2 inches. I plugged it that night and later the next day I just kept addinf plugs that have cement on them till the tire stopped leaking. A total of 6 and after a day or so I cut the remains off with a razor. Black plug sand black tire hell, you hardly see the hole.
