I own a 2002 sportsman 400. I was trying to find out if the 500ho exhaust is the same or not.
My dealer has know idea he says if the part #'s don't match it won't.
Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the only two things that are different between a sportsman 400 and 500 H.O. are the Camshaft and the Carb.. no i take that back. the only two INTERCHANGEABLE things are the cam and carb. the bore and stroke are different too but you cant change that without big bucks. youll have to go aftermarket with a muffler and pipe.

 

they are different. the old non H.O. 500's are identical to the 400, i bought the non H.O big gun exhaust but it came with a machining error with the muffler. it was something with the connectors on the muffler that attach to the frame werent made right...something was obviously wrong there was a gap of about 2" between the mount on the frame and the connector on the muffler. I filled it in with a rubber exhaust hanger from my dads truck...we got it to fit and it works fine. my dad has an '04 500 H.O. and the mounts for the muffler are different in design. we also have an old '98 500 and the mounts are the same as my 400.
