Default Trailblazer 250 in the sand dunes?

I know its just not a great idea....... But, I have been taking my DS650 and my wife's 04 Trailblazer 250 to the dunes. The 250 has a RCR pipe and a very high rev clutch kit. I would think this 250 should do "ok" around the dunes for her. I got on it and it was terrible. It felt like the parking brake was on. The front tires felt like they were pushing the sand. It doesnt have paddles and before I go get a set, I wanted to post this. I dont really want to spend the money if someone else has been there done that and didnt like it. I just need it to get around, not drag race up hills. I am also thinking of calling RCR and get the clutch kit changed...its pretty extreme right now.

Forget the sand? Get the paddles? Any ideas?

Not sure i dont ride dunes really being in the east but i am gonna take a stab at this because nobody else has said anything. What type of tires are you running and what PSI are they. if they are high try lowreing your PSI for a bigger footprint and more floatation. polaris is not known for light weight machines so if you have a heavy quad with a small footprint up front your going to plow sand insead of ride on it. if you have stock titains or tires with more of a mud/sand tread even like dirt devils or sur traks or spider tracks they would be better. I dont know how much better paddle tires are youll have to wait for a duner to chime in on that. if anybody thinks im wrong on my thinking please correct me.

Our 250 does great in sand and dunes but my son weighs less than 100lbs but it gets around ok with my fat butt on it too.The only time the high engagment is a problem is in soft wet sand like a creek bed then it wants to dig down.

I didn't have any problems with mine. It's a 400 though. If you do get the paddles, stay away from Gecko's. I don't like those very much. They're stiff so they work well on wet sand but have trouble on dry powdery stuff. I was always burying the back end if I started out too fast.

This 250 has way more power than a stock 250. The pipe is very extreme and the Clutch is just as extreme. I am wondering if it all comes on way too strong and digs. Plus the stock tires in powder sand.....is not a good combination. Its crazy because it actaully acts as if the front brakes were locked. But if its comming on too strong all at once.....I would think paddles would be the answer...? This clutch is like neutral and like you second guess if you have it in gear....then when the RPM's get way up there "BAM" its moving.

Its brand new and I put the black 500 plastics on it, looks cool. I want to get it to the point that she likes it for all riding.

Man I love that black plastic and decals. Looks sharp. If you do get paddles I would get some light tires. Maybe some skat trac gliders. They work really well with lower horsepower engines. Another think that might help is to remove the heavy chain guard. If you ride in other terrains this may not be an option but it really helps with less rotating mass.

Hello BajaX04. We had our stock 04 Trailblazers out in the sand at Bullgap in Michigan. The hills here are a reasonable, but not too steep. On flat and hills that were not too steep, our trailblazers had no problem in the sand. But we had stock tires, stock clutching and no mods to the engines. I did not notice any front end pushing in the sand and the quads floated quite well. When we tried to go up too steep a hill, the rear wheels just spun and dug holes. I too wonder if we had paddles if it would go up steeper hills. It seems to have enough power, it just needs traction.
I hope this helps

Get the paddles. A cheap set of Sand Devils, Sand Skates, or Sand Sharks will make you and her very happy. You'll be suprised at what it will make it up with the paddles. Stay away from Geckos like the menageAquad said.
