i'm just kinda wondering how a clutch gets out of alignment in the first place and requires these "shims" you are talking about to fix it?

how does it get so far out of wack?

Most of the time when a clutch gets out of alignment it is due to bad motor mounts

wavehog,

i was wondering if you are mixing your gas because of that oil pump blockoff kit.

Yes I mix my oil around 34:1 using Bell Ray H1R oil, 104 octane boost and premium 92/93 octane gas. The whole oil pump think scares me because if it fails you get no warning before your motor is garbage. I fiqure, I mix my gas/oil for my bike, might as well mix a little more. Thanks

When you say "bad motor mounts" does this mean the motor needs to be loosened, adjusted, then retightened or do the motor mounts need to be replaced? Thanks. Also, any ideas on what a Polaris dealer will charge to align the clutches.

If the mounts are bad the motot will shake worse than normal and they will need replacing.

just so you know. bad motor mounts would not make an engine stay above normal idle rpm. try starting it, letting it idle with no throttle input and then turn the wheel left and right. if the rpm pickups or stalls you have to adjust that barrel up by the throttle. it basically means that the throttle cable is too tight. make sure that your throttle also has about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch of play.

another thing. polaris engines burn up without having an oil pump burn up. the way they work the oil pump supplys oil to the engine in a varying ratio. at idle the mixture is about 80:1 and at full throttle it is about 40:1. so they run incredibly lean up until the point where they burn up. and they die very unexpectedly. ive seen 3 do it myself.

wavedog check your front clutch that is what it acts like when it doesnt release all the way.Motor mounts will let the belt get out of alignment but more than likely you need new bushings in you clutch.

Thanks for the info. Where are the clutch bushings? I have had the front clutch off to clean and lube but don't remember anything that resembles a bushing. Also, where is Spurgen IN, where you are riding in the pictures. I live near Indianapolis and have never heard of this place. We usually ride at Badlands (Attica) or Haspin Acres in Laurel, IN. we also go to a place called Portercave in Owen County that is free and pretty fun when dry.
