The clutch is has about 300 miles on it. The other day I heard a squeaking sound. I pulled the cover and cleaned the drive and driven clutches. Still making that noise. Sounds like a grinding noise. Like worn brake pads on the rotor.Only happens at low rpm in forward and reverse. I checked the buttons on the driven clutch and everything looks fine. The belt is in good shape also. It runs fine. I don't have a clue here.

is your quad moving forward or jumping the slightest bit? or can u feel it wanting to move. the clutch could be just riding on the belt and when u give it some gas the clutch spins around the belt causing the squeek before its supposed to engage

Yes it is. It doesnt shift to forward to reverse smooth. I lowered the idle and it doesn't help.

may want to get your buttons and slide checked out also your shims may be worn out, could also be your bearings in your clutch.

I have another Sportsman and I switched the drive and driven clutch. It is the drive clutch that is the problem. It is sqeeking and it is not coming out all the way at idle. What do you think?

Does your 99 have the EBS on it?? I had the same problem on my 2002. It would creep forward at idle and make a squeaking noise. If you gave it a little gas and the bike starts to move the sound went away. On mine it turned out to be the EBS bushings that were making the noise. At idle the belt rides on the small pulley between the sheaves on the driven clutch, and off idle the belt rides up off the pulley and the noise goes away. I had my dealer change them but if you have the tools and the ability to do it yourself all the power to ya. Good luck Madcap, hope this helps, EH!

It is the drive clutch. It is very hard to shift and it squeaks in idle.

I brought it to the dealer today and it was the drive clutch shims. 35 dollars later it runs great. Thanks everyone!!!!
