Did you get rid of the hesitation at the bottom of the throttle Tim? Taking off from a stand still mine runs fine but while at speed during on/off throttle it hesitates and sometimes backfires just as you throttle up but runs smooth from 1/4 throttle up through WOT. Are you totally cured or just better? I would just like a smooth throttle from idle to WOT, is that too much to ask?

My 600 and 700 run bad when it is cold unless your rideing hard if you let off it backfires then after awhile it will just die when you let off the gas. Is this cold carb update something that should have been done like a recall or are dealers just hopeing you get past the 6 months and make you pay for it.

A good dealer will do the update even if you are out of warranty. Polaris sent a note about the matter to the dealers explaining what needs to be done and the parts needed. http://atvquadsquad.com/eve/ubb.x?a=...4&m=4006077864 Go to the link and scroll down to the 600/700 carb update post. I just had my 600 updated at a dealer that I didn't buy the machine from and I am a few months out of warrany. The dealer I did buy the machine from would not even do the update when asked at the time of purchase. Obviously they are a poor representation of the Polaris name and I sent a letter to Polaris customer service detailing my disappointment. It's sad you have to search for a "good" dealer, but once you do they will take care of you. Print off a copy of the Service Bulletin and bring it with you just so they know you know what you are talking about. Good luck.

polaris has a carb update kit for cold weather starting issues and low speed driveability. have your dealer check the polaris team tips for the 600 and possibly install these carb parts. i'm a tech for a dealership and this has made significant changes in throttle response and cold weather driving. the adjustments are plugged to avoid tampering, thank the epa. but, even if removed and adjusted the kit still works better. hope this can be of any help!

zerowick, maybe it's to early to know for sure if the hesitation is fixed, but I didn't notice any, and I'm pretty fussy about that sort of thing.

My dealer did leave the tamperproof plug out of the bottom of the carb (against Polaris' recommendations) for further tweaking.

So far, I'm happy with the results.

So jeffro, how do you think I should adjust that pilot screw if I am experiencing hesitation at the bottom of the throttle? The rest of the throttle through WOT is great, just that first 1/4, not everytime, but quite a bit, with some backfiring form the pipe. What do you think?

Does any of this affect the warm weather riding? Mine has always started and idled better then hers, I think I'll talk to the dealer tomorrow about getting it for her bike and maybe mine.

Thanks, Jeff

There is the side effect of better all around performance in warm weather also which is a nice perk.

My machine is a 04.5 sp 600 and i also had major issues with the machine whenever it got wet. It would stall out constantly and it was pretty embarrassing riding with a bunch of guys who sat there and said " i told you to buy a kawasaki " . anyway i dont think they did anything with the carb. Im gonna do some real riding on sunday so that should be the real test since it has been like 10 degrees out all week in NY.

zerowick, try turning the idle mix screw out 1/8 turn or so. this will richen your idle mix some. back firing could be caused by other factors too. does it do it only when cold or even after warmed up?? (polaris considers the engine to be warmed up after the cooling fan cycles on and off once) also, what plug do you have in it? the stock ones have been champions. we have found the ngk plug to have less problems. try bkr7e or bkr6e. other problems that you are experiencing could be a small piece of dirt or water trapped somewhere in the carb. it may need gone thru again. what does the bike do when its warmed up and you run it at low speed, say 1/4 throttle or less, for several feet? does it stumble and hesitate? if so your carb could still need some adjusting. make sure to check all other possible problems before adjusting the carb, otherwise it'll get worse before better!
