Default 2000 Sportsman 500 fuel prob

My 500 sportsman will start and run for about two or three minutes,Then dies .It wont start after that. It seems like it what used to happen to my sled when the diaphram in fuel pump hold a hole in it . Anyway I took the carb off and tried to clean the jets. It started again and then died.Any help would be appreciated. The day before this started happening I rode for twenty miles or so. The spark plug gets wet but there is plenty of spark. Thanks fellow sportsman riders.

Do you have a filter inline? Maybe on it's way to being plugged. I have the exact same year and it now has 4000 miles on it with the original pump, and is still working okay. Usually I can anwer the Polaris problems but, the one you're having can be caused by so many different things, having the same simptoms. A bad and/or weak coil can also be your problem. Simply taking your fuel line lose and letting it pump into a can as some people may offer isn't really a reliable check, as it may not show itself unless there is resistance on the line. And maybe it pumps but just not enough to satisfy your engine. If your plug is getting wet at all I'd be looking more at the ignition system, be it the plug or otherwise. If the process of elimination is a road you're forced to travel, I'd start by replacing the plug as that's not all that much money and it's always nice to have a spare plug around, anyway. I keep one packed in soft foam in the glove compartment on my quad along with the tire plugs and Co2.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I had a carb that had a two piece needle and seat which came apart and would cause a near identical issue. I bought a one piece needle and seat and it worked great.
