Default Scrambler 500 4x4

I've decided I'm going to purchase a 2000-2004 Scrambler 500 4x4. Some people advertise a 500 HO (high output) and some just say 500. Does anyone know if the Scramblers come in both the 500 and the 500 HO or are they both the same engine? If they are two different engines does anyone know what those differences are?

The only 500 scrambler that was not a H.O. was the 97. It was also non-concentric drive. I would suggest that you look for and 01 or newer. They had some more improvements than the 00.

I second what BBS said. '01 or newer and you'll have some nice improvements over the '00...such as stainless steel braided brake lines, better brake lever/master cylinder, better tie rod ends and steer post bearing.

Welcome to the forums. Let us know what you get.

i believe in 03 or 04 they got rid of the rear fox shock and went with a standard shock. so you might look into that as well.....

The newer models have the Predator rear brake caliper. My friend's '05 Scrammy actually stops when you hit the rear brake pedal.

the predator and scram calipers are different part numbers - not same. the 05 was changed to a forged body and yes they do stop better.

yeah whats up with that? my rear foot brake doesnt work either so i toke it off, it doesnt work on any of the other 3 four wheelers we have either!

(sorry i dont mean to steal your topic but how much would it be to buy a new rear brake caliper? i broke the bleeder nipple off and also broke off an easy out in it trying to get it out? and also do you think i could put a rear brake caliper on the axle like the new ones and just run back brakes?and how much would this cost?)
