Fellow ATV'ers, I saw these at the Minnesota State Fair. The glass case is for real and there were no demo's. They had some crated up for auto's but nothing to look at, and I don't know why?. to see the product in action cost's $15 for a tape but not sure if your going to see trucks or ATV's. I'm gonna call them just to find out whats going on.

I just called the rep over there at Mattracks. They will be manufacturerd for all 4x4 ATV's in early spring 2001. The projected price is $3595. He says it only makes you lose 5% of H.P. because it is an internal lug system with no friction. It has a shape changing suspension, so if you come up to a 2 foot high log it will literally take the shape of the log. Each track is abot 11" wide and 24" from front to back. A huge footprint! Steering is supposed to be easy and performance unhindered. He stated that it is intended to go over the mud and ruts instaead of powering through with big tires.

Sounds pretty cool. He is sending me a videotape of this product and one of the ATV videos when it comes out!

Darn, I was at the minnesota state fair and I missed seeing that. Boy oh boy! From your quoted price above, I wont be buying one anyway. I have a feeling that this product will be hard on our atv's I bet. It would be fun to try it though..

The guy told me that it was much less strenuous on the drive train than big mud tires...

there is no way that thing only eats up 5%. there is no such thing as no friction internal lug system. it would only be good in areas that get VERY deep snow. if u need that they GET A SNOWMOBILE. if u had a sp500 and added thoes tracks u would have over 10k invested. a good sled would be alot cheaper.

it also looks like it would tip over easy because it is so tall. thoes tracks would also add alot of unsprung weight.

I am only repeating what the rep told me. Come to think of it he said 5 mph and 5% less HP. 5 mph would be about 8-9% not 5%... He said that it adds 4 to 5 inches of ground clearance and, if I remember right, 5 or more inches in width. He also stated that while they test rode them on various quads, the center of gravity is actually lowered in proportion to the width, thus making it less tippy! He talked about hardly any power loss because of the differential gearing of the tracks...I think that sound right??

Anyhow, 4000$ still is a lot. But if it does what he says it could be the new trick for mud, sand and snow. It looks really cool though... Everybody would certainly stare!
