Predator jetting for S/O?
#1
Tomorrow I'm installing a HMF s/o and a stock air box K&N filter. I'm going to put a 155 main jet in it and go from there. I never been in a Predator so I could use any help or suggestions like;
1. Is it going to be a pita?..lol
2. Is there a lot involved in taking the carb off, panels, gas tank, etc?
3. Should I use a bigger pilot jet or come out on the air/fuel screw?
This is a buddies stock 04 Preddy. Any help or tips would really be appreciated............

I did search and thats how I came up with the 155 main jet as a starting point. Am I even in the ballpark? Is the needle adjustable and should I? Its kinda hard to find good info on the Preddy. I wanna do it right cause I really like his Preddy and he's as picky as I am.....................

I'd say you are close......I'd say closer to 160 though. You need to open up your airbox though(drill holes in back of it)........also send the carb off to Doug at Nicholas Cycle. Go over to www.predatorowners.com and you can get all the info you need there........

155 is what hpd recommended for their race system with the twin air clamp on. an impact screwdriver is a tool that i don't have, but have heard its helpful in getting the bowl screws out. small vise grips were what i used. left panel is all you'll have to take off, theres enough room to flip the carb over when its out of the intake boot. hardware store would have metric allen head screws that are helpful in quick removal if you want to take the time.

He bought 155, 157.5, 160 main jets so we should have that covered. I take it you have to remove the bowl to get to the main jet and the screws that hold it on are a pain to loosen? I don't think we'll cut holes in the air box (as of yet anyways), I would if it were mine but I keep up on maintaince better than he does.
Thank you guys so much! ........I'm kinda anxious to get started.......

Yes the screws on the bottom are a pain.......they strip the heads out easy.......I'd go to lowes(or a hardware store) and buy the exact same ones but with alan heads if I was you........

If you are not going to mod the air box, then I would not even jet it then. They run rich from the factory, just put the pipe on and go ride.

I agree with Rex..........don't even jet it. I personally would mod the airbox and get a drop in K&N filter........and send my carb off to Doug at Nicholas Cycle. The pred will become a whole new machine!!!!! If you don't want to cut up your airbox, I have one for sale........for cheap!!!

Like Brad said, have him send the carb off to Doug.......that was money well spent on the carb mod. Here is Doug's web site Nicholas Cycle

Is it just me or does it seem like EVERY POST that Brad or Raj makes includes a plug for Nicholas Cycle and "Doug". All he was asking for was an idea on how hard the job is and what size jet to use, and it turned into an infomercial for Nicholas Cycle. Not a big deal, just seems to be an every post event now.
