the 4x4 scramblers are they as good as a regular 4x4 or no . i want a scrambler so bad and there pretty cheap to . soon as i sell my banshee im going to buy one. Do they go in mud and stuff like that as good as a regular 4x4 or not really or what?

 

A 4 X 4 Scrambler is a regular 4 X 4 atv. It will go anywhere you have guts enough to ride it. It is completly different than a bahshee. You will enjoy it much more on trails and in mud.

 

These machines are GREAT. I wish I had one. I have a trailblazer. Same frame and all. Just wish it was a scarmbler. If you have the means of getting one. I say go for it.

 

Scramblers have a little less ground clearance than "regular" 4x4s (only because the rear tires are 22's) and they have no low range transmission. The Xplorer has the low range tranny and they really should have offered it in the Scrammy. Picking your way through heavy woods is the only time this is a problem. Where the Scrambler really shines is on trails, its "fun factor" is much higher than the bigger, heavier 4x4s. You can slide it, you can jump it, and if you dump it in the mud you can hit the 4x4 switch and climb right out. If you want a quad for work, you need a regular 4x4, but if you ride for fun the Scrambler can't be beat. Its really underrated, so yeah, you can get some good deals.

But buy a 1999 or up. The older models used a series of chains to drive the front diff, kind of a pain. The later ones switched to a shaft. The 400 is a screaming fast 2 stroke that has humbled many a sport quad who thought he was fast. Its simple and reliable with fewer parts to break and some people have hopped it up to 90 horsepower!!! A great engine, but with that 2 stroke smell and sound. The 500 is a 4 stroke with a dry sump oil system like a NASCAR engine. Its another great engine, used in the Sportsman and I've even got it in a big ol Ranger with plenty of power. I don't think they make the 400 in 4x4 anymore.
