Battery is dying, still ok to operate machine??
After 5 seasons of use my battery is showing all of the signs of old age. Basically it wont start my maching. Luckily enough I have a trusty rip-cord. I dont ride too often during the winter months but the last few weeks here hit an abnormal streak of 40's and 50's. With the melting snow and slush, who couldnt resist going out and getting soaked? The maching seems to do alright without battery power, but am I asking for trouble riding it this way? I went down to pick up a new battery but of course the place was temporaily out of stock. I will get a new one soon, but I was wondering if my rig should stay parked until I replace it. Thanks!

Yes it will work unless the battery is completly dead. Most batteries die but still have some juice to run the quad but once it loses all voltage it is like having an open circuit (disconnected battery). You disconnect the battery and it will not run.

The battery on my 1997 Explorer 400 had been dying for about two years. I kept recharging it and it would work for a while. I paid dearly for that mistake a couple of months ago. The battery finally quit completely and I blew every light on the quad. I have since found that I am not the only person this has happened to. The low beam bulbs are particularly expensive. Do yourself a favor and buy the new battery as quickly as you can. Don't make any attempt to run the quad without a battery.

You can run it with a dead battery, but don't run it with no battery at all. The battery is the voltage regulator for the charging system, and as mentioned, if you run without the battery you will burn out the light bulbs.
