glowing header pipe-sp700efi!!!
#1
Me and my boys washed up our toys today after riding, and after running the engine at a high idle...2000-2500 rpm to dry things out,
I noticed the Header pipe was glowing orange hot right at the collector where it connects to the single pipe, right in front of the engine!
I never noticed this on my sp600 before...

Well it was getting dark, and I was really loking it over closer than usual, first nice warm day in a long time, and I was just kind of
day dreaming about going riding this summer... looked down under front of machine while standing alongside of it holding the throttle
to a fast idle and noticed it. I guess my 600 pipe probably glowed too when holding it wide open for long distances trail riding... I just didn't ever look. I wonder if the 800 duel header pipe would stay cooler since it is probably less restrictive???

I don't know Dano, doesn't really sound right to me. That pipe is going to be very hot but doesn't seem like it should be glowing, probably wouldn't be a bad idea to call the dealer and ask if that is a normal condition or not. keep us updated on this issue, it's always nice to know the answers to these issues.

I sent Dano a pm but just so everyone else knows I started my 700EFI up this morning and held the throttle for a bit and got it nice and hot but it didn't get hot enuff to make my collector/head pipe glow red. I had a few red sparks but no glowing.

My 700EFI glows. I just thought it is because its new and still breaking in. The thing runs just fine.

Took it out for a good hard beatin' tonight, man this thing really hauls compared to my old sp600. well anyway I drove it hard and wide open about 4 times down this 1/4 mile dirt/sand lane then parked it in the garage. the lights were on in the garage but I could still see the pipe glowing... it was a dull orange on the header pipe right at the y where the 2 pipes come togather. I can still only assumethis is normal 'cause it runs so good and doesn't seem to lack any power. The pulse out of the exhaust is definitly strong, especially compared to my old sp600. I will check with my dealer tommorrow and let you all know what I find out.
