Get the 500, it has more get up & go than the 400.
The 400 seems a little weak to me + the resale will be better becuse 95% of the people out there would rather have a 500 vs a 400.

Just my opinion .

Whether or not he is telling the truth, he is right. All the sportsmans are the same size (twins sit a little higher, I think) so a 400 is really a 700 with a smaller engine.
I like the 400, but I have no doubt you would have no regrets if you got a 500.

You have to factor in break pads. With EBS I hardley ever touch the breaks while just cruising around. I would get the 500

I ride with an 05 500 ....and yes it is faster ...but not much....and where I ride it dosent matter I can go through anything that the 500, 700, or 800 will go through/up no problem . It is not under powered........if you think this then you have not ridden one. I can still hit 50 mph no problems...and 55 on the pavement! I can spin the tires anywhere and can do donuts till the cows go on vacation! It is better on gas that the 700 ...but close to the 500. I love mine and have no regrets at all.... this motor and the 500 are both made by Fuji and are the same for dependibility....rock solid!

We bought the 400 and had EBS added for $150 each.

And I have no engine braking. If I have to go down something real steep , when AI get to the lip i put in all wheel drive in reverse and burp the throtle , then I go in low and just let it idle down the hill......all four wheels stay locked in low and if I need to turn or something just burp the throttle again and it all unlocks!

I have BOTH. Bought the 400 a year ago January and the 500HO a month later. The 400 had plenty of power. I ride on the Pismo/Oceano Dunes here in California occassionally because it is 10 minutes from my house. That's where I see the difference between the two. The 400 jams around and gets squirrly with no problem, the 500 adds a "fun factor" to the equation. It just has a bit more poop or response to get up and go. You could easily get in trouble with either unit. They are identical in weight and features, one happens to be 75cc more with a different Carb.

You mention an extra $500 for the 500HO.....I say WHERE? When I bought they were about $1000 difference. If it were only $500 I wouldn't think twice about getting the 500HO.....do it! As for resale, I call Bullchit, it won't make a bit of difference, at least not in my state. A 4x4 Ute hits the papers around here it's gone that afternoon for full asking price. Before I bought my Utes I looked in the papers for about 2 years trying to find one. I was never the first one to call so I just couldn't get a hold of one unless it was just a POS thrasher.

Oh yeah....I heard EBS was standard on the 400 now. Anyone?
