bert,

how come the dealer u talked to is the only one that knows about this sp700. there are lots of people on these forums that have said there dealers went to the reno show, all said there were nothing said about the sp700. so are u making this up bert?? i think so

rangerchet
i think the 2001 ranger is out and its very similar to the 2000, with no 700 in it. but i agree that the 700 would go good in the ranger.

My dealer says he has not heard of a 700 but it was not so long ago that 800-1000 CC snowmobiles were rumors, and now you can pick one up at any of the snowmobile showrooms. We will see a bigger SP, it is inevitable. How big will they go is my question? maybe a 875 lbs 1000 cc 4 cylinder in a SP, 125 HP, 110 top speed, 4000 lb tow rating. the 31 inch BF goodrich tires off my Pathfinder. 23 inches of ground clearance, seats 3 comfortably. 16 gallon gas tank, 1000 mhz pentium processor running the computer controlled 4x4 system and the on board computer with email and fax capabilities. Optional 10 disc cd changer. 23,500 out the door.

the horse power figurs are all not that optimistic. If you look at the world of motorcyles, the suzuki sv 650 wich is a twin 650 for those who didnt know. Makes any where from 65-70 hp stock dpending on the day. And who can forget the might Ducati 748 wich is also a twin, but I have seen dynos any where from 84hp to91 hp. so getting the hp is very probable. but will polaris do it? I highly doubt it.

girthyguy,

That kind of hp you mention, it's on engines that do 10,000rpm. They wouldn't be very good for an ATV, especially an utility ATV.

I NEVER SAID I HEARD IT FROM A DEALER AND I DID NOT SAY THAT IT WOULD MAKE IT IN PRODUCTION UNITS.
PROTOTYPES DON'T HAVE DESIGN LIMITATIONS IN INTAKE AND EXHAUST COMPONANTS. FOR THOSE DOING THE MATH 55HP IS EASLY ATTAINABLE OUT OF 500CC WITHOUT TURNING OVER 6800 RPM. HORSE POWER IS A MATHMATICAL EQUATION OF TORQUE, 2 CYLINDERS WILL MAKE MORE TORQUE THAN 1.

first of all prototypes do have design limitations. they are to get publics perception of a machine and to see long term dirability. i dont know how u planning on getting 55hp out of a 500cc single four-stroke. stock its 38hp so it would be very hard to add 17hp. its posible if is a two stoke.

so who did u here this from??

maybee it can be done but not easily. it will cost u alot to get 55hp out of a sc500 motor. and it will also cost u long-term reliability. what RPM does that 55hp come in at?? i hope u realize that manufactures design a machine to take a given amount of power, if u increase that, which u can, u take the risk of braking parts.

and for thoes guys putting 800twins in avts, what kinda fuel range do thoes things have? and how reliable are they? what size radiator do u have to use? i think u know the answer to thoes.

BERT
u never answered my question abut where u got your information on the sp700??

I met Bert and some of the other guys from Houston at the last FWP ride. I do not think that reliabilty is built into the equation. In this sport, durabilty and reliabilty requires (at least at this point) some moderation in the modifications that we do to our bikes. I think Bert is what I would call an extremist. If he can afford it, I will sit back on my little Polaris and watch him break stuff and spend his money. Someone has to do it so the rest of us will know when to stop.

(Thanks for the stuff Bert. I applied it Sunday... Not sure when i will get to try it out. I look forward to riding with and competing aginst you Houston guys in the ATV Rodeo.

Cya,

Greg
