Primary Spring for Race Mod?
#31
i've build mine 400 over up to 180 real PSI last spring,
around 180-185 (cold engine) on 15.5 heads is the right # from HPD.
i have an HPD violet spring collecting dust for sale, let me known
if i can save the house for you then...
do you run the 6.5 slide in with EEG needle?

Will the violet be good for trail riding or racing? The only other setup I have ever had was the trail mod aggressive clutch kit. Red-yellow primary. I guess I will have to tear it down and see if I can just re-ring or bore it out. There is virtually no piston slap so I am hoping for the best. I like to drag but still want to aggressively trail ride. I would be glad to take the violet off ytour hands if it would work.

I guess I have been thinking about this this morning. I know I want this as good as it can be. I know the best thing is to take the 20 minutes and tear it down. Make it right. I will rejet the pilot down a little, replace the primary with the blue, or violet, and refresh the top end. Then I know everything should be great. I guess I would still question: The race mod out of the hole is good, great, or so-so? I know the trail mod was a moster out of the hole, hard to control with the aggressive trail clutch. I still want some responsiveness, but love the drag, or straight line acceleration. I know it will not be as great as the trail mod, but how will the powere be from a dead stop? I just want to know I will not be having to catch up to most people out of the hole. By the way, 14/34 hoda rear end gearing. I like this setup for drags and its ok for trails. Help if any of you can. I want this thing ready for Hatfield.

that wiser to tear it down right now before the piston slap the bore too
much,do replace it with wiseco as well and let it warm up very slowly after the rebuild at around 40:1 ratio or richer.
yes i can make a deal on the spring,it will be better, racing or trail riding, the response become better on the race mods by leaning out the main,i run 168-70 years around and engine is still pretty new.
all compression tester do seem to varying,i would guess around 170-73 psi
on 14.5 dome.

Well I think I found the problem. The pressure release port ,theat should be tapped and plugged is missing the plug. I believe that would = at least 15lbs when at idle. I will put it all together after replacing the plug, maybe a new piston, at least rings, a new primary spring, and rejet down on the pilot= ready to go. Thanks for all of the help.
