Default Tach for scrammy 500, under $50?

I just spent about an hour looking at all the tach posts and they seem to contradict each other.

I need a tach for tunning my clutch. From what I read I do not want a digital one. it has to be a 6 pulse? I know RCR sells one for 100, and HPD does not sell one anymore. I read trailtech was looking into a tach 2 years ago, and according to the site they still don't have one?

Anyone know of a good one around $50 that will work for my 4 stroke, Is there one from an auto store that will work accurately?

I am buying a hitch setup for my van and truck so I can't afford 100 at this time

A six pulse tach from a Polaris snowmobile will work.

Check my pictures & you'll see mine.

Do I have to get one from ebay or do they sell it for a resonable price new?

I found mine on eBay. New they are quite high priced ( $100+ )

I hooked mine to a yellow/red wire that's on the far left side under the hood when facing the machine. There are roughly 1,000,000 yellow/red wires under there, so it was trial & error. The ground, I then crimped a "wire-eye" to it, drilled a hole in the plate by the steering stem, sheet metal screwed it on & it works great.

I use a digital tach I got from the dealer. I think it is made by TinyTach, but it has the Polaris name and logo on it. I like it. My dealer now carries TinyTach brand for about $50. They hookup real easy. One wire to the spark plug wire and one to ground.

From what I read the tinytachs refresh rate is slow and makes it hard to read and tune your clutch?

jimk72, it should work fine. The Storm is a 3 cyl. engine & that's what you need.

There is also a tach. from a '93 XLT SKS on eBay for $25.00 Buy It Now.
