could a Phoenix keep up with a blaster, stock
#12
I have a stock Blaster and a new Phoneix and their is no comparison running in the sand. The suspension sucks on the Blaster and you better be able to stand up to ride in rough sand buty it will out climb, out run and kill it if you take it to comp hill in Pismo. My wife rides the Phoenix and we use the blaster as a back up for both of us. The phoenix suspension is far superior and so it the turning radius. Unless you want to sand down anyone behind you the Blaster is a bear to turn tight at low speeds. My wife can not keep up with me but she could climb most hills when the Phoenix was running decently. The Phoneix is going back to the dealer and I am taking with me some notes from all you wonderfull people that share good information. I will keep watching for some solutions. Especially the rev limiter that keeps the engine from really cleaning out or maybe I do not know what I am talking about. I am a 2-stroke man and this is my first 4 stroke and first auto trans or even auto clutch. Got a lot to learn but the Phoenix looks like it could be solid. I only paid 3 grand, without paddels, at the dealers so I think the price was right.

My oldest daughter (18) has a Blaster. My youngest daughter (11) has a Phoenix.
NO COMPARISON
Blaster has gears and is a 2 stroke. Quick for a 195 if you keep it in the power band.
Phoenix is belt drive and a 4 stroke. SLOW for a 200 no matter what band your in.
Phoenix has been to the Dealer 3 or 4 times for jetting to get it to run right.

Ive owned an blaster for awhile now, and to put my two cents in, the suspension is out of date for sure, but something else that is for sure there is not a 200-250 fourstroke that can keep up with them. Considering they are an 200 they are still somewhat superior machines. The problem you have is you have some people who try to compare them with 300cc bikes or more. Sort of like the banshee's case the banshee still holds its own after not really being changed in alot of years. Which sort of hangs over the makers heads alittle, but at the same time shows how well yamaha did fashion these two machines.

Well the blaster has been basically unchanged since the 80's. The phoenix is a new model, so what's it's excuse for poor suspension and questionable reliability?

I stand by that statement, just repeating what the experts have said.
The Phoenix is targeting a diff audiance and who said the suspention is worse than a Blaster!

All I know is the Blaster has been around a long time and yamaha sells each and everyone they make , why do you think that is ? because its a great machine at a great price. The suspension is out of date otherwise the brakes have come a long way and the power is unmatched for a 195cc quad. With a few upgrades the blaster is one hell of a quad and I owned them my self for over 10 years with little or no problems.
