400 breaks up on long run and leaks on gasket
#1
This 400 race mod I noticed on a very long run, it breaks up and loses power on the top. It has to be a long run though. Could it be running out of gas? Also, I noticed the area just to the left of the counterballance dipstick, the seam between the two halves of the engine seems have a slight leak, and is pushing a slight amount an oily substance[the engine oil mixture and gas] around the seam. It does not go all of the way around, but at least for a couple of inches. Is this something I should be worried about at this time or can it be this way until I get the time and money to tear it down?

Oooo. That doesn't sound good to me. It sounds like the case halves are leaking. If you aren't running a case saver I would say be very carefull that you don't crack a case. I broke both case halves on mine and it was a very expensive rebuild. It sounds like you are gonna have to bust the cases anyway to reseal them. I would say not to run it. Sorry man. It's a good thing you noticed it though.

The area is very small that is just oozing the oily liquid. If it does not suck in dirt, why is it not ok to run on the trails? What probably is wrong is the gasket material has not held up between the halves. Everything is tight, so it is just the silicone gasket maker that is leaking. Still not run it? It's totally your call. If it were me I wouldn't. I just got through taking my tranny out and re-sealing it cause it had a leak. Not a bad one but I like my stuff to be right. I've also had to spend money on something that if I would have noticed it sooner wouldn't have cost me as much. If I can nip it in the bud before a bigger more expensive repair than I am. Just my opinion. Do what you want it's your bike.
