I've also got a heat gun with a high and low setting. I think it just might work.

Should I try it?

Worth a try, but hard to tell if it is switching at the right temperature, you can hold a thermometer right near it, but not as accurate as cooking it on the stove.

Itll let you know if it flips at all, though.

I did use a heat gun to verify wether or not mine opened and closed, but as tyler suggested it is very difficult to get a good temp reading. I tried to heat mine on the stove in boiling water, but my stove only gets to 180 degrees. Just hot ehough to boil water. A gas stove may get hotter.

You can't get plain water over boiling, 212*F, no matter what kind of stove you have. I think we have had this discussion before, lol.

Either add a ton of salt to it, or find something different to boil, like some kind of oil. Just be careful, it gets a lot hotter.

I know we've had the discussion, but even the book says to put the sensor in a water bath and heat to the apropriate temp. I know what temp water boils at, but why can't you continue to heat beyond boiling? It just gets hotter and boils more. But I did have an idea. You may be able to heat a mixture of water and anitfreeze higher and not have all boil off.

I think it says to cook it in antifreeze, I'm not sure.

And I dont know why plain water won't go above 212*, thats just how it is. Any hotter and it has to be steam. Really, put a thermometer in some boiling water, it will never go higher.

Thanks guys. I am going to try the hot water test, and see what happens. I just want the damn thing to turn on! I hope it works finally. Thanks guys, but heres another question for ya'll. How do you adjust the hydraulic brakes? Everytime I go to put my parking brake on, this 560 pound machine goes moving again. Help! Thanks again!

why not just wire the fan to a toggle switch and then you can turn it on and off manually.

my 2000 400 xplorer was the same ,the only time the fan would come on was when it was about 90 degrees in the shade and I would have to be working the guts out of it at the same time ,these engines seem to run cool, put about 4000 miles on it that way and still worked good when I sold it,so I don't think it hurts them in any way,my 500 ho is a different story the fan hardly ever shuts off which I find a little annoying at times.

Hey all,
Im new here and site seems VERY helpfull!!
I have a 2000 Xplorer 250 4x4 with a fan "issue" as well. I took the seat off as I was tracing the wiring and now have all the plastics off..lol...
So I found a "connector" that is spliced off the main run of wires from front to the rear of quad. The two wires are red with white stripe and the other is orange with black stripe and both run into a connector of some sort ( looks like a female connector that you would plug into a prong type fitting attatched to the frame maybe?)

So I hot wired the connector and the fan powers on, I made a makeshift switch and it worked. So.....

With all that said, does anyone have an idea of what that is suppose to be hooked to? I have the quad stripped and trying to fix this the correct way if possible. I dont see a thermostat or ANYTHING that this would plug into.

Any Help Please???
