I just bought a 97 400 Scrambler for $2900. It has a Weisco .020 over w/15 hrs, ported and polished, K&N, Flywheel lightened, DG pipe, Delta V-Force, New (stock I think) front shocks, New tie-rod ends, polished aluminum wheels, and a new belt. The plastic is kinda dull, tires are worn abit, it has a new clutch cover shroud and the oil injection unit has been removed (you gotta mix the oil and gas manually 32:1). It needs new grips. The guy said it has no problem staying ahead of piped banshees. I really don't know much about polaris. I have a '99 400ex and needed something for the girlfriend to ride. The guy is throwing in a helmet all the stock parts and a belt he says is slightly stretched. It seemed to be pretty tight, although it has been ridden, with no major rattles. I hate buying used stuff like this. I know without seeing it, it's hard to judge. Do you think I got ripped off? What kind of Scrambler problems should I be looking for?

I think you got a decent deal. I bought my 97 400 this summer for $2600 bone stock. I doubt it's going to out run piped Banshees, but it'll get down the trail pretty fast. I rode mine a lot this summer and the only problem I had was I broke the rear chain jumping. I've already ordered a chain tensioner to solve that problem. It's my 3rd Polaris and I still own my second also. If you keep up with the maintenance, I think you'll have a great time on a great wheeler. Welcome to the Polaris family.
By the way, how's it ride?

I really didn't have the chance to give it a good ride. The guy had a lot with lots of trees behind his house. From the ride I took it seemed to have great acceleration and I didn't notice any major rattles. The only rattle was the clutch shroud and that will be fixed by the weekend. My girlfriend and I sanddrag and there are ALOT of Polaris's that race and win. With the mods that this machine has I figured it would be a good start for dragging. The Wiesco piston is not a high compression piston, so the first thing I'm planning is getting a 11:1 or higher piston then new tires.
