I just got my 05 sportsman 500 rear plastic replaced under warrenty. It Melted in the exact spot you guys are talking about right by the muffler. It was'nt a very big spot but you could see it if you were standing beside the bike. My dealer had no problem replacing it. Just thought I'd post this to say "yes these things are melting I've seen it first hand!!!!"

My 05 500HO has melted the plastic "Male" shaped tab on my removable panel, I quess I should go in to the dealer and see what happens.

HABHATR the reason PROBLEM doesnt like the comment is b/c going to the dealer everytime and getting an new fender is not solving everyones problem. you just have to go back again and again never fixing the problem which is the reason this forum was created. he needs to keep his comments to himself, not actually experiencing the problem first hand, makes it useless for him to reply.

 

The comment about- I am better than you because you can't afford one was pretty LOW. We have a few 800 in our group and "I" the lucky one was the only one with melting problem. All riding the same trails. ??????

 

Once while at band camp.

 

the 500's ar not excluded from melting the plastic i have seen 2 of these with plastic melting i have seen several 800's with it and some have had no problems hard to figure why some melt and some dont by the way both the 500's were camo!?!?

 

Since my "Camo 2005 Sportsman 500" had its plastic replaced in Aug due to melting, I have on tiny spot on the inside of the plastic that has melted again, but you can not see it from the outside.
