I tested my compression today with a compression tester from autozone. since I don;t have the electric start I had to pull the cord to test it, Do I just give the cord one good yank or do I yank it acouple times?

here are the numbers I got.

one yank -90psi
multiple yanks- 120psi.

If im correct I should be seeing 150psi.

I didn;t hold the throttle wide open, but thats scary becuase that would make the reading even lower the 90.

Do I pull once or acouple times?

I pull mine around 4 or 5 times. Are you using the the longer adapter that sometimes comes with the tester? I used it on mine and got a way lower reading. When I took off the extension then it went up like 20 psi.

ok well thats a higher reading and means my rattle may be something else.

Do I pin the throttle wide open or no? I guess I should of read the instructions.

Im wondering if my pings are related to timing, Im going to try retarding my ignition just to check.

Yeah I keep the throttle pinned wide open when cranking. It's easier to have some one hold it open while you pull.

You can pull it as many times as you like to achieve the highest reading, but the quicker it gets to the highest reading the better shape the rings are in. If you're compression is still low you can put a capful of oil in it and then retry and see if the compression comes up, if so the rings are bad.

well using the correct method, I get 149psi after 3 pulls so I guess its safe to say my bore is alright.

will the counter balancer make a noise that sounds like piston slap? I know its not the clutches as ther arn;t on the bike.

Have you tried using a synthetic oil? It seemed to quiet things down a little.
