Help! Used 2000 Sportsman 500
#1
Hey, i bought a used 2000 Sportsman 500 on July 4th and have noticed that it is hesitant when giving it throttle. When i give it throttle it pauses for about 2-3 seconds and then goes. Does anyone know why it does this or if its just normal? Thanks.

well this is my first four wheeler. I did look at the air filter and at the bottom, there is about a half inch of oil/fluid. I am not sure if its a K&N filter as i only glanced. The person i bought it from was the second owner and didn't have any paper work on it. I plan on chaning out the fluids and putting a new air filter/oil filter in it.

Also, I didn't think mine had a belt as it says it is shalf driven.

But, from your engine to the trans, it's just like a snowmobile.

How many hours?
Could be throttle cable, but I have noticed at the very top end of my throttle I have a bit of hesitation. After reading here about a small problem with the cams on 2000s I am thinking that when it gets bad enough I will replace the cam. From what I have read here the cams on 2000s did not have a oil hole needed to keep the well lubricated and the exhause lobe will wear out and this means you exhaust gases are not exiting the head enough. I do not know how to ceck if this is the porblem, but from what I have read, I think it describes my problem.
The fluid in the air box should be allowed to drain, via the tube and plug on the underneath side of the box.
