Default 05 Trail Boss problem

Just got my 05 Trail Boss 330 a few weeks ago. I got to ride it for one day, absolutely loved it. Then I was out of town for a couple weeks. When I came back I was going to do the first oil change since I had about finished the first tank of gas (per dealer instructions). I went to take out the drain plug and it was VERY tight. Owner's manual calls for 14 ft-lbs torque when putting it in. So when I went to put the plug back in, it would tighten and then loosen. This kept happening. I removed the plastic splash shield to find that the block was cracked in a spot around the drain plug due to the factory (or dealer) over torquing the drain plug. I know it is impossible that I caused this damage as I had my torque wrench set to the 14 lb spec and it never clicked - so I never even got it that tight.

At any rate, what would you guys expect the dealer to do about this. I already took it back and they are fixing it. Sounds like they are replacing the block or something. They told me parts are on order and that I should get it back this week. Anything I should look for or be aware of? Any advice appreciated. Thanks! Sounds like your dealer is taking care of it. I dont think you need to do anything else. Now that you have a new 330 look at my pics to get some ideas for stuff to do. I have it decked out and its great.

There is one thing to check and that's to make sure they haven't patched it with JB weld.

Great, thanks!

How does the plow work? I want to get one before winter hits. Do you need the winch for raising and lowering the plow? A friend of mine has a plow on his Sportsman and that's how it works. Also, since the Trail Boss is a 4x2 do you have any traction issues in ice/snow or do you use chains? Thanks again!

Yeah, that certainly wouldn't be good. If it wasn't under warranty that might be something I considered myself though as a quick cheap fix.

The plow works great. Better than I have ever expected it too. I do use chains and it helps alot. No traction issues and have never had a problem plowing deep snow. I use the winch for play but yes also for the plow.

You dont need a whole clutch kit. Just get a new primary spring and it will move alot better. I highly rec a EPI pink (#patv8) or maroon (#patv10) spring. I have tried all kinds of springs and these are the only ones that really make a huge difference at all throttle positions. I gained 800rpm's on top and 7mph with the pink spring. I can beat stock 400sp's with my 330 and it is great on the trails. What do you mean by custom exhaust?

thanks for the info guys and

the custom exhaust was just a modified sportsman exhaust that i made but some guy rear ended the rear quarter on my trail boss when i was out riding last time and completely crushed it and mangled my exhaust, back rack, plastic and rear tire so i put my stock spark arrestor back on but atleast he paid me $350 bucks for the damage and some one stole my K&N air filter from my garage when i took i off so its stock again but i have 350 extra dollars to spend on it so i wanted to start with a clutch kit.

Awesome, thanks! That's very good to hear. I had my doubts about how well the plow would work.

Do you have a Polaris plow from the dealer or do you have some type of aftermarket one? May I ask how much the plow & winch ran you? It would be nice to have an idea of cost to know if I am getting a good deal from my dealer or not. Thanks for all your help!
