i have a 2004 atp 500 automatic and i think that the belt has come apart because at a stop when you give it gas you can feel something slapping the inside of the cover and it jerks a little bit but once you get past a certain speed it quits making noise. could ne one confirm my thought or do you need more info? if it is where can i buy a new and better belt online and can i change it out on my own w/o any problems or do i need to take it to a dealer. thanks to all

1. sounds like you smoked your belt.
2. you can find a belt online or go to a dealer
3. it depends on how mechanically inclined you are, im sure if u have a manual or service manual that shows how you could do it. just go through the steps.

Removing the clutch cover is a piece of cake. You'll then be able to inspect the belt. Depending upon how much you use the thing, it might be time anyway even if it isn't the belt making the noise. Although it does sound like you are on the right track. I say take it apart and live and learn.
