Default scrambler 500 rear brake pedal aint a workin'

the rear brake pedal isnt doing anything on my 02 scarmmy 500. if u push the lever on the handler bars the rear brakes work but the foot pedal does nothing. there seems to be no pressure. at first i tried to bleed the brakes but nothing came out, neither air or fluid. so, i clean out the line and the same thing happened. so, i figure, are there little o rings on the plunger in the main cylinder of the rear brakes? do they make a reabuilding kit? i think it is the plunger or something on the plunger that is giving out no pressure. has anyone had this happen before??

No rear brakes is fairly common. It should bleed out. You might try a syringe and suck the fluid out. It could be the slave cylinder but on my '99 it just took a while to bleed.

what did you do, stick a syringe in the hole for the bleeder? i tried regular bleeding and nothing happened at all. the pedal has no force to push it down, thats why i thought it was just air bound but ill try what you said. stick asyringe in the bleeder hole?

What I actually did was to loosen the bleeder screw and hold my finger over the hole. Step on the pedal hold it down and then take your finger off to let any air burp out. Put your finger back on and release the pedal. I did this about 15 times then started to get fluid out. Then I started tighten and loosen the bleeder screw like you normally would. After I started getting fluid out it still took about 15 more times to get all the air out. I had to refill the reservoir about 3-4 times before I was done.

You might want to take the bleeder all the way out and make sure it isn't plugged. I know you did the line that way.

Good luck.

I just loosened the bleeder and used my finger to keep air from going back into the caliper when i released the brake pedal. Once I got fluid, I started to use the bleeder screw like the book says. Good luck.

I have the same problem, the only difference is that I am getting fluid squirting out. I tried bleeding it twice the foot pedal still won't work.
