I am going to purchase a new sportsman. I can't decide between a 500 or 700. What is the difference in fuel milage? Is the 50 lbs really noticeable? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the 500 ho gets slitly better gas milege than the 700 and the 500 ho has pull start just incase your battery goes dead very important insurance but they are not very much different in power.

I have had both and the 500 is very good machine and now having a 700 the 500 would keep up to about 40 and then the 700 walks away. This 700 with efi is really smooth on power no cold blooded carb to mess with. I am really happy with my 700 so far, but it is thirsty on gas it will suck it down really good it your working the motor, where the 500 would run quite awhile on a tank of gas.

As you can see by the sig, I have both. The 700EFI, IMO, has a stronger pull from the very begining all the way to the top. Although, I am sure the 500HO meets the needs of most people including myself. I stepped up to the 700 because of the EFI. I look forward to easy starts and no hassle this winter. It may be trivial, but I like the wheels on the 700 better if you don't plan to upgrade. The tires are very good regardless.

Good luck!

I know the efi makes it easier, but my 400 started in -29* F this winter with the keystart. And there is rumor of a 500efi for 06, if it's the efi you're after. Pull start is a nice feature as well, as mentioned above. Saved me quite a few times.

05Pred500, what do you do for work? I'd like a job involving a sportsman .

The 700 FEELS much more powerful but drag race wise its close up to around 40mph, only about a quad to 1 1/2 length.

The real diff is in Torque and the situations where that makes a differance like climbing hills mud and towing.
The 500 has plenty of power for everything you will most likly do, the wheels will always be able to be spun.

Tyler, it's nothing glamorous. I own a couple businesses - a wireless sales company and a custom home theater company. We are stripping the stock stickers off and putting our logos all over. We will put it out in front of our stores and take it to trade shows. My accountant gave me the go ahead for the write off.

Sorry to differ with you, but the 500 HO does have a pull start. My wife and I just bought 2 of them.

See Ya,
John

That's exactly what Bob said. "the 500 ho has pull start just in case your battery goes dead"

Sorry, I mistook the "h" in HO for an "n", my mistake.

See Ya,
