Default rev limiter hung up

A week or two ago I started the Xplorer and when trying to rev it, the rev limmiter kicked in while in nuetral. A little jostling of the shifter and it cleared up. Rode for about 5 hours off and on, no problem.
Today, it would hardly start because the limmiter was kicking in at idle. Even holding the overide button it would only go to about 2000 to 2500 rpm. I tried it in high, low, same thing. Then when shifting out of high, I missed neutral and went to reverse and the thing went wot. How the heck could it just reverse operation when no wires or anything had been touched.
It is still doing it after running for some time and using the overide and shifting in and out of gear>??? I hate electrical problems.!

Anyone got any ideas about this one?

well, I disconnected a wire from the limiter, and it ran fine. For one day. Last night it deceided to limit again in any gear. I disconnected every wire on the limiter and it still won't go over 2500 rpms. How can the stupid thing be working with every wire off it?

Ok, checked the trans pos switch and it is in good working order.
This is strange. If I jump the red/white to purple from the trans switch and the rev light comes on, the engine will run faster. The same result comes from disconnecting the yellow/red wire.Without this it will barely idle, and will take no throttle. It is as if there are two different rev limitted engine speeds.
Does anyone know exactly how the limiter works? I would like to eliminate it altogether if that is possible.

battery is full charge.

Did it get wet? I had problems with my '04 Scrammy, everytime I would splash through puddles, the limiter would kick in. I finally coated all of the connections on the connector for the switch with dialectric grease, and put electrical tape around the whole thing and haven't had a problem since. I left one of the wires off also to disconnect it, I'm thinking it was the brown wire. Now, I get full power in reverse, but still have to hit the button to get 4wd in reverse.

thanks scrammy, I still can't see how it could do anything with all wires disconnected?
