Would anyone knoe if the hawkeye 4x4 is going to have a low gear.
The specs on the polaris site only show F N R yet all the spostsman for example shoe the usual H L N R & P.
Any info would be appreciated as my dealer isn't expecting any literature until weds.

 

Being an entry level machine I doubt it has a low range.

 

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'm looking for something my girlfriend would be comfotable on with a decent power to weight ratio,but no low means she won't go where I go.
Looked at the knew 450 but if you check the specs it's the same weight as the 500sp so I don't see the reasoning for the 450.
Looks like it'll be the 500, she can ride but I was hoping for a little less weight for her.

My 400 keeps up fine, I imagine a 455 would only do better.

 

you might look at the magnum 330 4x4 it has High and Low. But if you want her to go where your 800 goes you better put her on a 500 ho

 

Yup, my wife runs a 500 and loves it,plus you get the 4 wheel independant.

 

I am kind of a new rider, but have trained well on my own. I can go anywhere others on 700s can go. I may not go as fast up the steep climbs, or carry as much gear, but that is the only difference I have seen. My 4X4 has climbed everything that I asked it to, even in six inches of snow. A few times, I wish that the trails were not dead ends though. I have never needed a lower gear than the PVT can provide on its own. My only regret is that I should have waited for the more refined '07 model.

 

when we looked at the hawkeye the biggest things i didnt like was it had no low and it was under powered and the ground cleance sucked. we went w/ the 450 because it has good clearance and power (as much as my ole 500 almost) and it had low and the biggest thing is that it steers easier then the 500 which was the biggest thing the wife wanted. now you would have to put bigger tires on the hakw(which people have done w/out problems) but i think it does take away power and speed. people have stated w/ this hakweye trans. system that it really doesnt need a low but i dont know for myself.

 

I do think that I might go with a 500 X2 EFI later on. I like the idea of having the Turf Mode. Here in AZ, we can make our quads street legal and having a rear diff would save some rubber. I rode with a friend on a Sportsman 450 with about a hundred or so pounds of gear and it did ride great. Larger tires would help me over obstacles better and I would have more tire options, but less torque.
