Default Changing sprokets

I'd like to "gear down" my 2003 Trailbazer. I'm very familar with changin gear ratios on a 4x4 truck, but I've never messed with a quad. I understand that by lowering the gear ratio, I will probably lose some top end.

How is it done on a quad? Do you change the front sprocket, the rear sprocket or both? Will the chain need to be replaced as well?

Will I need to get sprockets with more or less teeth on them to "gear them down"?

It's easier to do the front sprocket, but you can do either. When you say gear down, you want more bottom end? Go up on the number of teeth on the front sprocket, down in number of teeth on the rear. Check places for clearance items (Dennis Kirk, Rocky Mountain ATV). I got a sprocket from a person on Ebay who goes by sledpartsguy. New rear sprocket was 18 bucks. Can't remember where I got the front one, but it was a clearance item for 11 bucks.

Stock front sprocket is 11T, rear is 36T.

Check the chain while you're at it. Make sure you're not missing any o-rings. If you are, replace it too. Shouldn't have much wear on the sprockets, but check that too.
