exhaust question

Default exhaust question

does running an atv with no muffler on it just a straight pipe improve power or speed. is this bad for my atv?

theres little to no backpressure in the pipe causeing the exhuast gasses not to escape the chamber, createing problems, on cars and big diesel trucks you can do this because theres just so much exhuast escapeing that a muffler isnt neccisary

it viberated apart and now i have it back together but it still smells like ****. that exhaust smell is still kinda there. any ideas why? the engine also shakes. are all polaris quads like this or is something wrong? thanks for the help.

well any engine shakes, your going to have to be more specific, like is it rattleing, or does it seem like its going to jump from the mounts and walk away from the quad?

go to www.jetsrus.com they have a FAQ on jetting that describes what happens when you do things like lean out the engine by free flowing exhaust. You will definately lean out your engine and you will need to rejet or you risk damaging your engine.

my engine shake is probably just normal. would rejetting be a good idea? thanks everyone for the help that you have given me. it has helped alot.

put it straight pipe and weld a washer on the end for back pressure

tell me more wearwolf, sounds good. what kinda pipe should i use and can all of this be homemade. which end should the washer be on. will this give me more hp and/or speed? im new at all of this so i really apriciate all of the help!!!
