Default I can't win!

Ok here it is, my brother has a bone stock 04 Dale Jr. edition Predator and I have an 04 Troy Lee(mods listed below) bought at the exact same time new. Before I started doing any mods I could beat him by a little, but now I just cant seem to hang in the drag. I geared it down a little with a sprocket and also put 18" tires on the rear, I knew I would lose some top end but I thought I would have better low end as a result. So today we went out and drag raced a few times and he just blew me away, so I went back to the shop and put my stock sprocket back on and went out and raced him again. This time we were neck and neck until I topped out and he just kept going. So I am wondering if by putting the 18" tires on if I am geared to low? Do you all think that changing the gearing to a 36 tooth sprocket on the back would help me out all around? I am thinking that it is a gearing problem because before I put the smaller tires on he never beat me, so what do you all think? A gearing problem, or did my aftermarket mods decrease my performance? Just for the record I am not that concerened about drag racing, I just want my machine to run to its full potential and belive that it should be faster than it was stock! Thanks for any comments!!

With small tires you are geared lower so wo will lose on top end. But with your mods you should be well ahead before you top out due to small tires. How is your jetting? My brother could never get his jetted right and tried many people's advise on what to use. He finally got fed up and took it to be dyno'ed. He was way to rich and now his Pred just plain screams. The best $100 he spent. He has the PP pipe with 13 disk with a CFM airbox with lid removed and twin K&N filtes and is only running a 170mj.

What mods does he have? BTW, he is taking you on top end but sounds like you might put a whoopin on him once you throw in some turns and such.

Ok first off it is jetted correctly, I believe. I sent my carb. into Nicholas Cycle and had them do their carb. work with the race mod. I couldnt get it jetted right on my own and when I got it back from them it ran great. I belive it is jetted with a 168.5 main, but im not sure without looking. I thought that I would be ahead of him until top end as well but, I just cant get in front of him at all. When we are on a track with lots of corners I seem to blow him away, but I just dont believe that I am running right. Im going to try changing my rear sprocket to a 36 tooth and see if that helps out some, it helped going from a 38 to the stock 37tooth. I just cant belive that his bone stock predator is beating me. Thanks for your comments and any more that you might have! I will let you know what I find out with the different sprocket!

The only way your going to know if its jetted properly is if you put it on a dyno or do proper plug chop. You should be able to check your plug now to see if your running rich or lean and adjust accordingly. With the smaller tires you may be spinning them too much, possibly not getting the power to the ground. You never mentioned the size of you and your brother. Weight will make a big difference. Also on the drag race try starting out in second gear with high rpms. This should elimate some of the spinning. With those mods it shouldnt be close.

Ok, I changed my rear sprocket to a 36 tooth and went out to race him again. This time I was able to take him no problem! We are very simalar in size and rider ability. I think that I when I changed my tires that it geared it down way to low and was just killing the power it has. Before I was going threw each gear so quick, it was like a totally different machine. Now it fly's once again!
