400 Sportsman- won't move in high gear
#1
The lady friend has an 2005 --400 Sportsman with 247 miles on it & on Saturday it quit pulling in high gear while on the trail. The clutch cover was real hot. If you put in low gear it would ride ok but it still wasn't as low as low gear usually is. We drove it back to camp in low gear & loaded it up. Sunday morning after we washed it high range worked for some reason.
Any thoughts on what might be the problem?

Sounds like a belt issue(I hope for you). Take the cover off and look at the belt see if its glazed. 247 mi. Take it to the dealer. You didnt splash through water just before the prob did you? Lifetime warr on the belt.

She didn't go thru any water.
A buddy said he thinks the clutch has jumped the buttons, I really do not know what this means but he said take it to the dealer & let them work on it since it is under warranty. That is my plan but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen this.

Found out what the problem was.
The buttons on the cluch broke, which inturn screwed up the belt.
Now it has a new belt & entire clutch system all under warranty. All is fine now. Thanks to Jeremy @ Waynes Polaris in Lagrange, Ky. By far the best Polaris dealer I have been to yet.

I agree,
If someone has a problem & the bike is under warranty take it to a reputable dealer & get it fixed. My local dealer near Madison,In where I bought my bike from is 10 minutes away but they never have anything in stock, when you call in & ask them for something they never know or return the call. They also want to know where the bike was bought before they will work on it.
Bull crap, I have spent $ 15,000.00 at the local dealer & they pissed me off so now we deal 40 minutes away @ Waynes Polaris in Lagrange, Ky.
This applies to car dealers, there are some good dealers & some bad ones. But none of them ask me where I bought my vehicle. It doesn't matter. They get paid for warrant work or the customer pays the bill.

hey GITRDONE i just got my 05 sp400 back from the dealer for the same prob, the clutch was off alignment from the factory and at 400 miles it self destructed the belt and both clutches, it has lots more power now then it had brand new,all new clutches and belt it was all under warranty too so that is kind of a weird that i had the same thing happen.
