700SP Clutch Issues
#1
2004 700SP developed a hard sifting problem at approximately 400 miles. Seemed to be more pronouced when ever the bike was in a bind. Finally got to the point where it you had to shut it off to shift. Paid $140 for the stealer to shim the clutch (14 days out of warranty !).....explaination was the motor mounts sagged causing the clutches to become missaligned. Shifting 100% better after the fix, except when the bike got hot, then the symptoms returned. The transmissions simply stays engaged when the bike is stopped. Sometimes, you can free the clutches by severely rocking the machine back and forth. Back to the delaer, and apparently Polaris says "keep shimming"
Anyone have a similiar experience?...... advise?

Normally when the bikes start doing this the drive clutch is worn or grooved. Shimming the clutch is a band-aid and will work for awhile, but the problem will come back. The best way to fix the problem is to replace the clutch. A torn motor mount can cause this problem also, but not very often.

Thanks for you ideas.......... I've adjusted idle from 800 - 1200, makes no difference. I called the dealer I bought it from, he says hes never had an issue with a 700 clutch, which makes me curoius. Called the "stealer" this morning, he says 2 weeks before he can get the shims and to sit tight. Kinda getting the feeling that I'm getting the shaft

How many miles are on it? Yes it could be your mounts shifting...polaris's do do that. If your handy you can do all that stuff yourself. http://www.hotseatperformance.com/ps...1929&CATID=261

Given the choice of buying tools or paying a dealer to do it..... I have the tools in my tool box. If by chance your drive clutch is toaste, that would give you the excuse to put in a clutch from a 800.
