Default New 700EFI Coolant Question

Just brought home my new 05 Sportsman 700EFI yesterday. The coolant level in the reserve was between min and max. Rode it around the neighborhood for a while and noticed the level in the reserve dropped quite a bit. Rode around some more and parked it. The reserve is now completely empty. Put a total of about 1 hour on it. Is this normal for a new 700EFI? Does the system generally have air in it when new? I have 2 SP400's and neither did this. Thanks for any help.

Default New 700EFI Coolant Question

I had a similar problem. My 700 was actually leaking coolant all over the floor of my brand new garage floor. (I didnt even ride it yet) Needless to say, I was pretty pissed when I called the dealer. I made them make a house call to me all under warranty. It turns out there was a faulty clamp on a hose.

It did continue to leak slightly until I had a chance to put a few miles on it. I guess the seals need a little heat to seal properly.

Default New 700EFI Coolant Question

I should have added that I have not seen any coolant that has leaked out. No puddles, no drips. That is why I was thinking that maybe the system had air in it that needed to be purged. Or was the radiator not filled up by the dealer. I'll be giving my dealer a call this afternoon.

Thanks for the replies.

Default New 700EFI Coolant Question

Having seen this same problem in other new sportsman's that I have purchased I had the dealer add some extra coolant before I took my new 05 700efi home. The mechanic that added the coolant confirmed my thoughts and yours, the air needs to be purged out. I had to add more coolant at about the 100 mile mark to. Have close to 400 miles on her now without any further issues.

Default New 700EFI Coolant Question

Thanks Wayback. My dealer said that I may have to add 2 or 3 times. Found out last night that my neighbor, who has an 04.5 SP600, had to do the same. My 2 SP400's never did this so it concerned me. Maybe the twins are different? Anyway, thanks, makes me feel better knowing others have seen the same thing.
