Default I went to the Cat

Heres the deal I got for the 2005 Cat 500 manual. I trade my 86 honda 250R racing quad for it since i was selling it anyways because I liked my 05 predator le alot better. I was originally looking at purchasing the Polaris x2 or bomb max, or cat 2 up model but the deal was to good to pass up. I got a 2005 utility quad and have no payments on it. The cat has 108 miles (20hrs) on it. I just did the oil change today. I was only selling the honda 250r for $4000. Think it was a good deal?

Anywas, Eros, I think you hit it right on the head with the 4x4 test. They were using an old quad or didnt have the front diff lock turned on. I changed the front suspension to two clicks tighter (middle setting) and it made a good difference in the nose diving\plowing that it had. The stock setting is on the softest. That suziki engine in there has alot of torque!

Fixitmat, I too am a little confused on that 4 wheel drive test. On my prarie, I couldnt help but notice when I squeeze the yellow lever when three wheels are turning, they all start turning, pretty slick. My good friend has an atv dealership and was at one of those same polaris test rides I think in roseau,MN about 2 hours north of where we're from. He said the same thing about that 4 wheel drive test, and the test machine happened to be another grizzly, pretty coincidental, I hope.

When new, my AC was stiffer than it is now, and I didn't do anything to the suspension. Of course, this is 2,300 miles and many jumps later....

They must have used the old AC's n older brand 4wheelers in the 4wd test. I must say this, i know Locking diffs are fun to play with, having the choice to have limited slip, and the diff, but i'd still stick with my awd any day. I ride with 5 other Four wheelers, '05 AC 500 Auto, '05 AC 650 H1 (Black), and '05 Yamaha Grizz, and '05 Yamaha Kodiak 450, and '04 Foreman 450 S.. having that said, when we all go riding together, we love testing our 4wheelers against each other, and im the kind of person who likes to put it in 4wd and just go, with them all turning right then and there to get through the mess, its the most effective system, i would hate having to STOP, throw in 3wd, then throw in locked, THEN GO EVERY TIME... it takes to much time!, you also say, well then just put it in locked be4 u attempt the mud, but you cannot go above, what is it 8-10 mph when in locked, that screws my friends up when we ride in our muddy feilds after it rains.... while i fly through our nasty long feilds after it rains in awd at 20 mph it clicks in and click out when needed and you can fly through the ruts, as with the foreman S, n the grizz, n AC's, have to creep along at about 5 - 10 mph really slow be4 they can catch up with me...in these feilds limited slip wont do, thats why the Foreman S usually gets stuck when we do this. I drive all my friends ATV's and they drive mine, they all admit that mines the most affective at getting "unstuck quicker" they all agree it gets the power to the wheels quicker, and they all agree its the most affective, but they still all say that would keep their atv's... and as i said i drive all their atvs and i LOVE having that option of limited slip its just fun, but having to stop all the time, it gets old. Let me cover one more thing, people down Polaris 4wd system because it kicks in when the rear wheels slip 20% faster than the fronts, yet when your in the goo, your wheels will already be slipping so that throws the whole theory out of whack. I do hate going downhills because the awd wont work, thats the only thing i hate about it. WOW, i didnt realize how much i just typed. I love all other brands of 4wheelers, in fact My next atv may be an Artic cat 500, but i still say in the world of different 4wd systems everyone has their own opinions, but i still think the awd is the best for most situations.

Hey hoopie, have you noticed the way the wheels stick out from the fenders. They do on mine and I think it makes it look pretty beefy.

QUOTE from JJonJon: AC's, have to creep along at about 5 - 10 mph really slow be4 they can catch up with me...

That's not true with mine; I shift on the fly at many different speeds, and have run well over 40 mph in 4 wheel.

Your not supposed to. The fastest i've seen all my friends go in Locked 4wd is around 15, they wont try any faster, due to how new their machines are. They do not want to send it to the shop already. Im sure u can go faster than it says. But i dont think its healthy for the machine if this is done too long
